There are a variety of options available for Civil Engineering graduates, however, it isn’t clear from the question whether you would like to pursue further education or professional career. In order to pursue further studies like masters in civil engineering, management, or specialized courses in construction technology, one has to do a lot of research ahead of getting enrolled.
The research should begin with identifying the core area in which an individual is interested. Studying MS in civil engineering in the US may be an entirely new experience for the international students. In the USA BIM technology has had been widely used for all sorts of construction. BIM or Building Information Modeling facilitates project management and streamlines construction projects.
However, if an individual is interested in getting a job in the US after completing B.Tech in Civil Engineering, he/she must enroll in advanced courses for BIM technology. In the developing nations like USA, UK, Germany, Australia, & some middle eastern countries, BIM has not only been widely used but it has evolved enormously as a technology.
BIM is a process that involves the huge amount of data pertaining various trades and functions involved in the AEC industry. It’s applications range from MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) to FP (Fire Protection), and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) and is meant for Engineers, Architects, Owners, and Contractors. BIM is the trend in AEC industry and qualified engineers wishing to pursue further studies or professional career in developed countries like the USA must learn the advanced level of BIM technology.
BIM and its integration with niche technologies like augmented & virtual reality provide realistic visualization of the buildings & structures well ahead of the construction. This enables early detection of clashes and potential technical glitches that may lead to rework and increased project costs. It becomes imperative for prospective civil, mechanical and electrical engineers along with designers and architects to have ample knowledge of BIM technology and related software.
There are various institutes imparting quality training for BIM technology and related software. Autodesk Revit, Naviswork, Bluebeam, etc. are some of the software pertinent to the BIM technology
