The strength of material holds an important part in Civil engineering work life. Many of the important technical parts are covered into it. That’s why it is given so much importance during Engineering life.
The strength of materials (SOM) is a fundamental subject which is going to help u in understanding rest of the civil engineering core subjects. If you are clear with the concepts of SOM you 'll b able to grasp the concept of RCC, STEEL STRUCTURE, GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING, etc.. which is very essential for ur career.
I use the concept of stress-strain in my day-to-day working. 👷
However, Civil Engineering is learned more from the site ( Practical Knowledge ) than from books. So Strength of material can only be helpful if you connect theories with practical live examples from on-going sites.
What importance does strength of materials subject hold in the daily life of civil engineer?
I remember the subject name because I cleared the exam a few Years back. But never gain much knowledge because of failure of connecting it with actual live examples/ Subjects.
I wish on my time, someone could guide me the same.
Though today after being on site, I can connect myself easily, but still if theories were taken seriously, it makes life a little easy on site.
Decide your fortune.
The same importance a foundation has to its superstructure.
Check your design formula you will see “E”…Young’ss modulus..that's a Material property...
All the different Modulus's you use are all material property.
So Its Very very important material property differentiates Steel from WOOD.
The Quality of Construction Materials is most important.
All Parameters, Specifications and Their Property is Well Defined in
The IS Codes. Quality Construction can only be achieved by Approved Quality Const.Materials Only.Use of Soils is very tricky.
Ex- Earthen Dams or Rail Line Embankment Works.I have seen Earthen Dams Failing due to Soil Properties and their Repair work is very complicated comparing to new const.work.
Many New Materials ( Carbon Cladding ) ( Geo Membranes ) are also emerging.
The material used in any work is always our No 1 Consideration including Quality of Water used in the Work.
